The primary purpose of annual reporting is to inform parents and the wider school community of the school's successes, activities and achievements throughout the year. The report also provides an opportunity to communicate and publicise the longer term directions for the school. Annual reporting is an important tool for effective governance within schools and the government school system. The 2010 Annual Report to the School Community: Ashby Primary School was released earlier this month and can be downloaded from here. All parents are encouraged to read these public documents.

April President's Report
In order to improve communication between the School Council and the larger school community the School Council will be sharing a summary of its meetings each month. This information will be shared via the weekly school newsletter and the new school council blog. Below is the summary from the Council’s April meeting:
· Excursion Cut-off Dates – parent’s responding in a timely manner to excursion notes has posed some challenges to the planning of excursions for staff. Council has been discussing how to handle this issue since late last year and strategies to help parents and staff on this issue.
· School garden and Classroom Kitchen – with the completion of the new classroom kitchen Council has begun discussing how the new kitchen will be utilized in the short term and how a long term vision and plan can be developed for the kitchen and garden
· Principal’s Report - the main focus of the report was an update on the BER. It was noted that the Art room work had been completed, and that the Kitchen and Hall were about to handoff. Work is still occurring with the office area and disabled toilet. The work on the library has run into an unforseen issue related to the school’s main power source. We are now working to upgrade and move the main power source to an outside accessible location per Powercore.
· Friends of Ashby Report – the main focus of the report was the status of current fundraisers including the completion of the Hot Cross bun fundraiser, phase one of the Entertainment book fundraiser and the upcoming Trivia Night and Auction. It was also shared that Fresh Fruit would be moving back to Fridays.
A summary of the May meeting will be provided in next week’s newsletter and monthly hereafter. If you have questions or wish to raise any issues or concerns with the School Council please contact ashbycouncil@gmail.com. Our next School Council meeting is Wednesday, June 15th at 7pm in the staff room. All are welcome!

Welcome to the Ashby School Council Blog
The aim of this blog is to share school policies and information about the Ashby Primary School Council with parents and the wide school community. Parent and community input is valued by the council and there are several avenues open to make it easy for you to make direct contact: either in the form of an email to ashbycouncil@gmail.com, or a letter delivered to the school office, or simply visit one of the monthly meetings (usually held on the third Wednesday of every month) in the school staff-room. Any comments that you leave on this blog will be brought to council for discussion when it meets next.
